Kamishibai complete with 16 colour cards, does not include folder. 27 x 38cm, Japanese text on reverse, some tidemarking on reverse of some of the cards, some light wear at corners, occasional

This fascinating example of a propaganda kamishibai was published on 2 January 1942, less than one month after the Pearl Harbor attack. The story tells children how Japan was forced into war against the United States and Britain in spite of the Japanese Governments great efforts to negotiate peace through diplomatic channels. The Japanese tried so hard with their sincere diplomatic overtures to avoid war, but the United States retained an unreasonable stance throughout negotiations, leaving Japan with no choice but to go to war. The story goes on to explain that once the war started the Japanese forces achieved historic victories in Hawaii and other areas.

The text used for this kamishibai is almost literally word for word the Japanese government's official justification of Japan's position and the actions she took in starting the war. A very effective and convincing example of WWII propaganda which would have influenced many children and through them their families.
