最新哈爾濱概観. [Saishin Harubin gaikan].
[The Latest Harbin Overview].
[Japan]. Circa 1938. Stock ID #178375 This collection of photographs of Harbin, with short captions in English and somewhat fuller Japanese descriptions, appears to have been published in the late 1930s after Manchukuo was established and Japanese influence was extending to the northern Manchuria. At that time Harbin had mixed population of Russians, Manchurians, Japanese and Koreans and boasted an exotic atmosphere. The architecture reflected the diversity of its population with Russian influence, both architecturally and in the people photographed, evident in this collection. The album also includes numerous buildings and monuments which were built by Japanese authorities, including a Shinto shrine, a Russo-Japanese war commemoration, and some administrative buildings.
