The author, who uses a pen name of Ofu Inshi, is a resident of the United States. These essays, which were first published in the Osaka Mainichi Newspaper, begin with an historical perspective on those who left Japan for overseas, including Yamada Nagamasa. Then, Ofu argues that there are three types of successes for the Japanese in the United States: in agriculture, in business and in academia. The work covers prominent Japanese, including Nagasawa Kanae who built a wine industry in California. Other businessmen who are featured in the book include Noda Otojiro who succeeded in abalone industry and Yoshiike Hiroshi, a successful flower grower.
