Stock ID #180532 First edition and a complete example of this comprehensive atlas produced just after the Great War: much of the content is dedicated to the British and Allied War effort. The editor's foreword notes that "all its maps have been compiled and designed expressly for this first edition" and makes much of the role of the photographic plates "for the first time in the history of atlas-making, the camera has been to supplement the the work of the draughtsman and the pen of the gazetter writer". i-xii + 572 pages, 37.2 x 25 cm, full-page coloured maps (most folding), with interleaving gazetteer with numerous photographic illustrations, index and, loosely enclosed, large folding supplement "War Chart of the Grand Fleet" (archivally strengthened), occasional ink marks, discolouration and foxing; original blind-stamped and gilt decorated green cloth, wear to the head and foot of the spine, joints a little worn but sound, overall in remarkably good condition.
With three unrelated enclosures, two wedding studio portraits from Lafayette, the fashionable and influential Melbourne studio and a programme from the 1962/63 Australian Ballet season (incomplete).
