Hand-coloured aquatint, 33.7 x 44.4 cm; 47.8 x 59.5cm (sheet), sheet watermarked E&P 1804, sealed marginal tear lower right and chip to the top edge (neither affecting the image or platemark), the margins a little dusty, but a fine dark impression in very good condition.

An exquisitely printed image, plate number XII, prepared for the folio (first) edition, Part 13 of Captain Thomas Williamson and Samuel Howett's "Oriental Field Sports." A richly coloured, atmospheric image of a tiger stealing into a cattle pen with a full moon emerging from a cloudy sky: a dog barking, guarding the cattle taking flight. Delineated by Samuel Howitt "from the original design of Captain Thomas Williamson." From the preferred large format edition.
