The map is brightly coloured, with the four regions of Shikoku, Sanuki, Awa, Tosa and Iyo, shown in separate colours. Railway lines are marked with station names, while the names, numbers and illustrated images of the sacred Buddhist figures associated with the 88 temples are shown within circles. Colour folding map, 38.5 x 54.5cm, folded 19.3 x 10.5cm, text on reverse, some light wear, a few small holes at folds have been neatly repaired on the verso, but overall a very good and attractive map.
On the reverse, the names and mottos of all 88 temples are listed, together with practical advice for pilgrims. The cover features a portrait of Kōbō Daishi, the founder of the Shikoku pilgrimage tradition, who is traditionally believed to have established the route as part of his Buddhist teaching.
