[Japan]. Meiji 30 [ 1897]. Reprint. Stock ID #223750 A Meiji edition of a work first issued by Yoshinoya Tamehachi in 1766 (Meiwa 3). This beautifully presented 1897 volume is a collection of kyōka (狂歌), satirical and humorous poems in the tanka form. Abe Bōsei (1853-?) became a leading figure in the field of kyōka, organising a number of groups and publishing numerous collections. When referring to this item please quote stockid 223750.
Colour woodblock images and decorations throughout, sixteen double-folded leaves. Features three pages of finely executed woodblock illustrations with the accompanying pages of text beautifully decorated with colour wave like patterns. 24.3 x 18.1 cm, cord ties, title label upper cover. Limp paper wrappers a little soiled and worn. Good copy.
The volume includes many humorous poems, accompanied by some striking double-page illustrations notable for their colour and composition. Other pages are decorated with elegant blue wave patterns.
A handwritten note on the inside front cover states that this particular copy once belonged to Ōkura Kihachirō (大倉喜八郎), a prominent Meiji-period businessman.
