A lively, colourful and socially revealing manga sugoroku game from the 1929 New Year's edition of the famous Japanese women's magazine Shufu no Tomo (The Housewife's Friend), this traces the life path of a young woman, with comical episodes and pieces of moral advice along the way, to the ultimate prize - marriage to a rich man and motherhood, complete with three healthy children (two boys and a girl).

The artwork, by famous manga pioneer Okamoto Ippei (1886-1948) provides vivid cartoon images of the "modern" life of a 1920s woman, including depictions of ballroom dancing and outings in a chauffeur-driven car, alongside images of the young woman splashing out money on new kimonos and rejoicing at the birth of a son who emerges, in true folktale style, from within a peach stone. A wonderful piece of early Showa period Japanese ephemera.
