Volume I: 3 folding maps, including 2 large coloured maps, one of India showing the Indian states, tribal areas, agency territories, as well as territory outside India and foreign territory in India and the other of the North-West Frontier Provence and parts of the adjoining areas of Kashmir, the Punjab, Balchistan and Afghanistan, this map has a small marginal tear, xxv + 409pp. Volume II: One very large coloured folding skeleton map of Orissa showing the areas of the Onya speaking people, with a 23cm closed tear on the margin and folding map, (running 15cm into the map itself), x + 344pp, index. Both volumes bound in original wrappers which are a somewhat chipped with some minor loss, corners of both volumes little creased, some occasional light foxing wrappers, first and last leaves, and folding maps, staples rusted. Pencilled signature of a prior owner title page volume I. Still a sound copy.

Inquiry into the working of the system of government, the growing of education, and the development of representative institutions in British India and matters connected therewith. The first volume includes a wealth of information on India including religion, the caste system, women in India, the various Indian states, the constitutional structure, the working of the reformed constitution, the administrative system, the system of public finance, the growth of education and public opinion in india at the time the report was compiled. The second volume discusses various recommendations as a result of the survey.
