I Confess - An In Conversation Absolutely NOT to Miss
On Wednesday October 17th author, translator and doctor, Kooshyar Karimi and Professor Kim Rubenstein will be in-conversation at Asia Bookroom.
Having read I Confess: Revelations in Exile by Kooshyar Karimi we strongly urge you not to miss this opportunity to hear Dr Karimi's story. Dr Karimi grew up in Iran and now practices as a GP in Newcastle just how he came to leave his much beloved country is a story that is extraordinary, terrible, and fascinating....
In 1998, Dr Karimi was walking home from his work at the hospital when he was kidnapped, blindfolded and tortured and so began his life as a spy for the Islamic Secret Service. Dr Karimi is Jewish and his religion is one of the reasons he is despised by those in power. This moving and very readable account of growing up in an extraordinarily repressive state, his relationships with his family and friends, and how he came to spy on those he knew, is related in his newly published memoir I Confess: Revelations in Exile which we highly recommend. It is an insightful account which leaves the reader with much to think on.
We are delighted that Dr Kooshyar Karimi will be in conversation at Asia Bookroom with Professor Kim Rubenstein, Director of the Centre for International and Public Law and Convenor of the ANU Gender Institute. Professor Rubenstein is also the President of the Canberra Jewish Community.
