New Views of Tibetan Culture - David Templeman and Ruth Gamble

Thursday, Oct 14, 2010

To celebrate the very recent publication of "New Views of Tibetan Culture" editor David Templeman will be in conversation with one of the authors, Ruth Gamble, at Asia Bookroom at 6pm on October 14. During their conversation they will talk about the new and exciting approaches to Tibetan studies which have recently emerged in Australia, often through close interactions with the Tibetan communities, and the unique place in the international community of Tibetan scholarship which Australia is forging. They will also talk about how the book came into being and something of the background of several of the contributors. What reasons brought them to such an apparently arcane field of study? The contributing reasons are as varied and interesting as being born Tibetan or Sikkimese, reaching an impasse in one's previous chosen career, being caught in a snowstorm with nothing else to read other than "The Tibetan Book of the Dead" and being blessed with hippy parents. Join us for this fascinating Tibetan evening at Asia Bookroom on October 14 at 6pm!
