Lithographed frontispiece, 111pp. Quarter leather binding with marbled paper covered boards, raised bands, spine gilt. Beautiful endpapers featuring a raised floral pattern. Corners of first and last leaves lightly stained. Binding rubbed at extremities with a little minor loss to leather and marbled paper, paper covered boards a little faded but nonetheless the binding is still very sound and attractive. Cordier 1768 Lust 1095.

This German translation of Robert Thoms's Wang Keaou Lwan Pih Neen Chang Han, or the lasting resentment of Miss Keaou Lwan Wang proved to be very popular. It is a story from the Ming anthology Chin-ku ch'i-kuan or which contained 40 stories and was published during the Ming Dynasty sometime between 1633 and 1644 and compiled by Pao-weng lao-jen (Old Man Hugging a Jar) is not identified. The story published here in German was translated from the Chinese by Robert Thom and "according to the writer, re-written and bowdlerized". (Lust 1103) The English edition was published in Canton in 1839 and the German edition first published in 1846.
