An analysis of a Korean community in the village of Hasami located on the island of Chindo in South Korea. The author lived in the village between May 1975 and November 1976.

Chun Kyung-soo selected reciprocity as an organizing principle in order to penetrate each context within a range of social situations. The ethnographic data have been divided into two parts: internal integration of the community and the community's external relations. The main body of the ethnographic data are also examined in terms of 1) ways in which reciprocity occurs, and 2) the intensity of such reciprocity.
