Large Chinese propaganda papercut on red paper with paper backing, featuring five happy peasants in the field, one woman carries a board showing an oft quoted slogan, "备战、备荒、为人民" [Be prepared against war; be prepared against natural disasters; and do everything for the people]. Upper section features a head and shoulder portrait of Mao, the sun with its bold rays extending behind him.
A few ink stains towards the right edge, otherwise in very good condition. Blocks of text in Chinese, papercut measures 73 x 49.5cm. On August 23rd 1965 during the meetings for organising The Third Plan of Five-year Plans of China (1966-1970), Premier Zhou Enlai concluded the important ideas raised by Mao Zedong to three crucial points, "Be prepared against war; be prepared against natural disasters; and do everything for the people". The slogan was regarded as one of the most frequent quoted slogans during the Cultural Revolution.
