The photos are of the type produced by Japanese photographers for sale to foreign visitors, and show some of the major attractions in Japan - many of them still recognizable today - the Nikko shrine and its surroundings, Tokyo's Ueno Park, Asakusa, Mount Fuji, the beach at Enoshima, temples and street scenes in Kyoto, Nagoya Castle,street scenes in Kobe etc. An attractive feature of this album is that it includes a number of delightful "everyday life" photos - of a shoe shop, a group of country villagers, a group of Japanese women drinking tea outside a rural house etc. When referring to this item please quote stockid 165567.
50 coloured photographs - each 22.5 x 14.8cm, laid down on dark green 'Arches' type paper bound in padded silk boards, decorated with a pine needle and crane design, silk tassled knots secure the expertly rebacked binding. Original embossed endpapers slightly sunned with prior owner details in pencil on the upper right corner. There are neat handwritten descriptions beneath each photograph in white ink. A firm and pleasing copy. 35 x 26.5cm.
