A collection of beautifully printed coloured Meiji Era photographs of Japan. The photos are of the type produced by Japanese photographers for sale to foreign visitors, and show some of the major attractions in Japan - many of them still recognizable today - the Nikko shrine and its surroundings, Tokyo's Ueno Park, Asakusa, Mount Fuji, the beach at Enoshima, temples and street scenes in Kyoto, Nagoya Castle, street scenes in Kobe etc. An attractive feature of this album is that it includes a number of delightful "everyday life" photos - of a shoe shop, a group of country villagers, a group of Japanese women drinking tea outside a rural house etc.
