Attractive grey cloth covered boards illustrated in blue and green. 396pp. Some light soiling mainly to the rear board and spine. Head and tail of spine tender, rear inner hinge split but secure, corners rubbed and a neat prior owner signature on the front free endpaper dated 3/23/'97. Much better than it sounds this is a very pleasing copy of a scarce item.
The facts regarding the famine were gathered from published reports of missionaries and from statements made by missionaries to the author. At least one of those stated that sixty-three per cent of government appropriations were taken for their own use by mandarins, instead of being applied for the relief of suffering.
