Children's colouring book, contains 15 (of 16) unused black and white line illustrations designed for colouring in, 16 21 x 15.5cm, very good copy.

This interesting Japanese war time propaganda colouring book published in Seoul in 1944 is based around the theme of strong friendship between Japan and Manchuria. It has an attractive pictorial colour front cover featuring two boys, one from Japan and the other Manchuria, each holding their national flag with a hopeful gaze.

The lower cover gives examples of how each picture should be coloured and depicts children in various situations on the home front wishing for the victory for Japan and Manchuria as well as a tank, ship and a plane. Each illustration is accompanied by a propaganda slogan in katakana for children to learn. Some of the images are particularly strong on Japanese-Manchurian relations.

These images include two planes with Japanese and Manchurian roundels on the wings, two Manchurian folk dolls and a Manchurian boy holding Japanese and Manchurian flags with a slogan "Japan and Manchuria appreciate each other whole heartedly" (isshin ittoku) printed alongside.
