Woodblock printed, most pages with numerous small black and white woodblock illustrations in the text, upper cover a delightful colour woodblock image. 12 double folded leaves, purple string ties. 16.5 x 11.6 cm. Small section of upper wrapper torn with loss and stained, corners a little creased but overall an attractive unusual guide.
This booklet was sold by Kokawa Temple, the third temple, in Wakayama, but covers all 33 temples. A compact sized booklet it was designed to be carried along the pilgrimage. This useful booklet provides the pilgrim with not only information about how to visit each temple but also why each is important. It gives detailed information regarding the location of each temple, illustrations of the Kannon statue and temple to be found there, the lyrics of the go-eika [Buddhist prayer song] for that particular temple, as well as how the Goddess' power was revealed.
