Stock ID #176500 A handsome portrait after a daguerrotype and drawing by Eliphalet Brown of the Regent of Lew Chew and prepared for Commodore Perry's "Narrative of the Expedition of an American Squadron to the China Seas and Japan...". At the time of Perry's visit in May 1853, the King was too young (12 years old) to receive the Perry party they met with the Regent, "a venerable old man". Tinted lithograph 23 x 16.5 cm, 28.6 x 22.7 cm (sheet), small stain to the lower corner and inner margin creased, but in very good condition.
