Tinted lithograph, 15 x 22.4 cm, (image), 22.7 x 28.9 cm (sheet), marginal edge wear and discolouration, lower edge creased and chipped, but in good condition.

A beautiful composition by William Heine, prepared for Commodore Perry's "Narrative of the Expedition of an American Squadron to the China Seas and Japan...". Perry visited Hakodate in May-June 1854, his squadron can be seen at anchor in the distance.
