Large colour folding map, 77 x 109 cm, inset charts. A few small, insignificant holes. Some small mainly closed tears at folds or margins have been repaired with Japanese washi. A little light browning at folds. Very good copy of a very striking map.

This large arresting map was published as a supplement to the June 1942 issue of "Le no Hikari" (家の光), a popular magazine which was read widely among farming families in regional Japan. It was published in this large format to enable display at local gatherings.

The map shows East and Southeast Asia where the Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere was established. Even though the sphere is not indicated on the map, the inset charts include their names. The chart on lower left corner shows population of several countries, which include Japan, China, Manchuria, Thailand, French Indochina, Dutch East Indies, Burma, the Philippines, India, Malaya and Australia. Another chart shows the natural and agricultural resources of various countries. The Japanese territories, such as Korea and Taiwan, are coloured in red. Interestingly, Singapore and Malaya, which fell to Japan in February 1942, are coloured red although Indonesia which fell the month before, is not.
