One volume only of a series. 7 double folded leaves with colour woodblock prints, plus 3 double folded leaves of text; 25.2 x 18.2cm, paper wrappers with paper title label, 4 hole stab binding. Considerable wear and light soiling covers, binding sound, contents in very good condition.

No publishing information appears in this single volume from the "Classic Library" series published between 1899 -1906. Designs of textiles and colour schemes are delicately reproduced here with brilliant colours. Although the title of this volume uses the term kindai ("modern"), the styles are in fact courtly and classic. Nyobo is a word that now refers to "wife," but traditionally meant a woman who served at the imperial palace. There are 4 double folded leaves with colour woodblock illustrations of fabric designs and decorative features including hairstyle, plus 6 of clothing examples.
