[Poster Advertising Western Fabric Wholesaler in Osaka].
大阪. [Osaka]. 饗庭又兵衛. [Aibashi, Matabei]. No date but appears to be Meiji. Stock ID #213506 A colourful advertisement for a Osaka western fabric wholesaler located in Bingo-cho in Osaka. The image shows three students studying two large hemispheres in order to learn the trade routes of western textiles to Japan. Australia, shown in green, is indicated with Japanese literation. When referring to this item please quote stockid 213506.
Colourful sheet featuring two hemispheres with a teacher and his students pointing to parts of the world. Sheet measures 32.7 x 46.7cm. Three vertical folds, margins a little chipped but neatly repaired on the verso not affecting the image, occasional small holes but almost all in margins, some light soiling. Nevertheless a very attractive example of 19th century Japanese advertising which looks a lot better than it sounds!
