This map was issued as a supplement to the February 1942 issue of "Ie no Hikari" (Light of Household) magazine, which was particularly popular among rural readers. Published shortly after the commencement of the Pacific War when Japanese troops were aggressively advancing into Southeast Asia, the map provides key information about enemy naval and submarine bases as well as oil wells in the region.

Detailed data on the naval strengths of opposing forces at each base, including the number of warships, planes, and army soldiers. An inset chart provides an overview of the naval powers of the United States, Britain, Australia, and the Dutch. On the reverse, an article by Sawada Ken delves into the history of American and British colonial invasions.
