Novae Literar Asiae Orientalis. A New Alphabet for China and Japan.
Stockholm. C. E. Fritze's Royal Library, 1901. Stock ID #214540 Scarce work by Swedish physician, veterinarian and zoologist Johan Gustaf Hjalmar Kinberg (1820-1908). Kinberg is best know as ship surgeon and zoologist on the Eugenie circumnavigation of 1851-1853, and for his contribution to the classification of Annelida specimens collected on the voyage. This work is his noble attempt (no doubt prompted by the voyage) to offer a simplified transcription for Japanese and Chinese characters following the work of J. J. Hoffman (1868) and Georg V. D. Gabelentz (1881). Fine letterpress renderings of the characters, text in English. When referring to this item please quote stockid 214540.
26 pages, 27.7 x 19.3 cms, original green cloth boards, gilt-stamped title, slight toning to the text block, but in very good condition.
We can trace only a handful of library holdings worldwide.
