but now neatly repaired on the reverse as is the top right hand corner which had a 8 x 6cm tear with loss but now replaced with an insert not affecting the printed surface. 79 x 98.3cm

This map was published in October 1942 by the Japanese Imperial Army General Staff Headquarters and classified as secret. Bombing of Darwin started in February 1942 and continued into 1943. The original map was published in 1938 in Australia as "Sketch Map of Darwin" in a scale of 1:63360 in 5 colours. The Japanese Imperial Army published an enlarged edition with a scale of 1:50000 and printed in four colours. On this Japanese edition of the map, legends are translated into Japanese, while place names have been kept in original English.
