空中戦将棋. [Kūchūsen shōgi].
[Air Fight Japanese Chess Game].
[Japan]. [朝日新聞社. [Asahi Shinbunsha]. [ 1928]. Stock ID #215605 This board game sheet was issued as a New Year supplement to Asahi Gurafu (Asahi Graph) Volume 10, in 1928. The game sheet includes the playing pieces, fighter planes, bombing planes and airships, and two 'cut out and construct' paper die. While the game's rules were printed in the magazine, not present, it appears the players were most likely to use playing pieces in a similar way to playing Shogi (Japanese chess) and try to take the enemy headquarters, which is defended by artillery. On the reverse, a striking full page advertisement for Meiji chocolate featuring a modern Japanese girl complete with a bobb hairstyle eating chocolate is shown. When referring to this item please quote stockid 215605.
Colour folding board game sheet, 54.5 x 78.6cm. Some light browning, neat repairs along folds using archival washi. A lovely piece where both the bright game and the charming reverse advertisment are of interest.
Price: $650.00 AU
