Stock ID #216096 This book on gourmet menu creation, published in the early 19th century, features several delicate woodblock illustrations of cooking ingredients, including fish, mushrooms, and shrimp. The author, Kuriyama Zenshiro, was the master of a popular Tokyo restaurant called Yaozen (八尾善), frequented by a wide network of cultured clients in Edo. In the book, dishes such as soups, vegetables, fish, and rice donburi are arranged by season, allowing for a variety of menus to be created. Colour double page woodblock illustration, three double page black and white woodblock illustrations, two woodblock illustrations, [42]pp, 18.3 x 13cm. Some staining throughout, paper covered light card covers considerably insect damaged, modern thread ties. A well used but sound copy.
