This map, showing the areas affected by the Great Kantō Earthquake, was published on 7 October 1923, approximately one month after the disaster. The Tokyo Imperial Palace is positioned at the centre, with surrounding districts printed in red to indicate zones devastated by earthquake and subsequent fire. An inset map of Yokohama similarly marks the areas affected there.

Accompanying text outlines the scale of destruction, stating that the number of dead and missing exceeded 120,000 and approximately 2.38 million people were affected overall. It also enumerates towns destroyed by fire. Comparable statistical and descriptive information is supplied for Yokohama.
