Two page letter, handwritten with Chinese brush on behalf of a soldier in the volunteer army, (Chinese Army fighting in the Korean War). Letter was sent to the Daxin Company Ltd, 830 Nanjing East Road, Shanghai, in the early 1950s, from the mailbox of 6th squad in 2nd platoon. Folds a little worn, rust mark where previously pinned together, some foxing, minor repair to small area on reverse. Envelope shows damage at edges with neat paper repairs, but address is still clear.

The letter begins with asking the recipient in Daxin to accept the money enclosed. Founded in 1934, Daxin was the largest Department Store in the Far East and one of the most notable buildings in Nanjing Road. It was later renamed the Shanghai No.1 Department Store.
