Ai Wu was the pen name of Tang Daogeng, born in 1904. He travelled around Southeast Asia, especially Burma in the 1930s, before going to Shanghai where he joined the left-wing League of Writers. Ai Wu's long preface describes some of his career in writing, and the effect of the Gang of Four on his life and publishing.
