Neat manuscript copy. Double page black and white map with routes marked in red, lovely full page colour watercolour illustration of the region with Tori gates dotting the path to the mountain summit. 25.5 x 19.5cm, 39 double folded leaves, four hole string binding, very neat handwritten Japanese text some sections with neat red ink lines. Some thumbing at lower corners, thread ties split but binding still firm.

Miura Kojinroku, by Katō Sanju, was originally published in 1812. It is regarded as the earliest historical record of the Miura Peninsula region, where Commodore Matthew Perry arrived in the mid-19th century. The original text was later edited by Ryūzaki Hanri (竜崎攀鯉), and more than ten variant editions are known to exist.

This copy most likely contains the first sections of the work, with at least one subsequent volume presumed. It includes a double-page map of the Miura Peninsula and a pictorial map of the Kinugasayama Castle site. The text offers a detailed historical account of various villages and regions in the area, and also includes family trees of several prominent local families.
