This book was published in December 1937 to mark the Japanese victory in Shanghai during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The Shanghai Incident took place between August and November 1937, and this book was published a month after.

A colour print of the bombing of Chapei is featured on the first page, at the time described by Pathé as "the poor part of the city [receiving] most of the Japanese bombs". The following pages are filled with photographic illustrations of jubilant celebrations by the Japanese soldiers with national flags and banzai salutes; scenes of street fighting that appear to have been recorded in real-time, as Japanese troops are shown in their positions to fire; and the evacuation of Western and Japanese residents in Shanghai.
