London. The Graphic. October 4, 1879. Stock ID #219134

Three strip engravings and one central wood engraving arranged on a double-page newspaper leaf, the trio designed to flow left to right top to bottom, (a panorama of the King's army), together 32 x 52.3 cms; 40.8 x 58 cms (sheet unfolded), unrelated text on the verso, light age-toning, central fold darkened, chips to the upper margin (no loss to the image), very good condition.

A panorama of the Burmese royal army rendered with a humorous eye (or sardonically pro-Empire), the marching soldiers in loose procession, variously smoking and chatting, their helmets askew, overlooked (in the central engraving) by the King high on an elephant with his retinue. King Thibaw, the last of the Kornbaung dynasty was defeated by the forces of the British Empire in 1885.
