[Korean–Soviet Friendship and Soviet Cultural Week, October 14 - 23 1949].
Pyongyang. No publication details. 1949. Stock ID #219428 The flyer refers to a 1949 state-sponsored celebration to mark the first year anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) and the Soviet Union, thereby showcasing Soviet support for Kim Il Sung's regime. In 1949 it was planned that a Friendship Tower would be built to honour Soviet soldiers who liberated Korea from Japanese occupation in 1945, and such a tower already appears behind the family to the right, typical of Soviet commemorative architecture topped with a red star. This tower wouldn't be built until 1959, but resembles the tower in this image. When referring to this item please quote stockid 219428.
