60 full page colour illustrations, 19 x 35cm, pictorial gilt silk-covered boards with string tie, original pictorial card slipcase. Occasional browning, lower endpapers browned, light wear slipcase. In exceptionally good condition.

This 1939 publication is a propagandist work documenting the Second Sino-Japanese War from the Marco Polo Bridge Incident of 1937 through to the Battles of Khalkhin Gol in 1939, illustrated throughout in full colour. The volume depicts Japanese troops advancing through China, including scenes of Shanghai, with repeated emphasis on bravery, endurance, and sacrifice.

Each illustration is accompanied by a brief explanatory text in Japanese. Furigana is supplied throughout, indicating that the work was intended for a younger readership or for ease of reading. The images convey both the intensity of the fighting and the extent of Japanese military advances. The final page shows Yasukuni Shrine, where the war dead are commemorated.

The front cover features Chinese city gates, while the silk-covered boards are decorated with small chrysanthemum and cherry blossom motifs.
