Folding colour bird's-eye view map, 38.2 x 105.8cm, text and advertisements on reverse, small clear tape repaired holes lower right, a little minor wear and occasional browning on reverse, still a nice large colour map which presents well.

This panoramic colour bird’s-eye view map was drawn by Kaneko Tsunemitsu, a disciple of the master cartographer Yoshida Hatsusaburō. Kaneko later established himself independently as a mapmaker and eventually became a competitor to his former teacher.


This vivid panoramic map depicts Tokyo and its surrounding areas, stretching from Chiba in the east to Hakone in the west. Major sightseeing spots and railway lines, including station names, are clearly marked, providing practical guidance for tourists navigating the region by train.

During the 1930s, numerous private railway companies operated in the Tokyo area, competing vigorously for passengers. This map represents one of the earliest efforts to consolidate travel information for train users across different lines. The names of the nineteen private railway operators that contributed to the map’s production are listed on the reverse.
