Two battle plans on one folding sheet and a folding chart, 19 x 13cm, 44pp, magazine supplement with a folding War Map of Liaoyana on one side and black and white photographic illustrations on the reverse (34.5 x 27cm), original wrappers, publication marked "Not for Sale" in Japanese. Supplement a little stained in one section and worn along folds, lower wrapper foxed, a little light spotting pictorial upper wrapper. A good copy.

This publication about Liaoyang was issued in November 1905, most likely by the Japanese Imperial Army, just two months after the end of the Russo-Japanese War. It opens with accounts of the Battle of Liaoyang between Japanese and Russian forces, followed by a description of the construction of a commemorative tower honouring the Japanese war dead. Subsequent chapters outline Liaoyang’s geography, transport networks, historical sites, climate and culture. The final chapter discusses the lives of Japanese residents in the city.

A large fold-out map, accompanied by an inserted sheet on Liaoyang with photographic illustrations, complements the comprehensive text. The front cover features the outline of the Japanese war memorial, with numerous Japanese flags depicted below. Two red stamps appear on the front and back covers, indicating they were applied in Liaoyang on 6 August, Meiji 39 (1906), by the Army Field Post Office.
