This sugoroku game sheet was issued as the 1914 New Year supplement to Jogaku Sekai (女学世界, Women’s World). Founded in 1901, Jogaku Sekai became an extremely popular magazine for women, with a readership that included not only schoolgirls and young women but also housewives.

The game follows the life course of a young girl as she moves through various stages and tries out different occupations and possibilities, before reaching the goal: establishing a family with a husband and daughter. It is particularly interesting for the range of careers and roles presented as desirable or acceptable for women in the Taisho period. These include nurse, singer, typist, artist, housemaid and bride.

The attractive illustrations are by Hashimoto Kunisuke, who later became well known as an illustrator and kuchi-e artist.
