Over ninety black and white and one colour photograph presented in a self-adhesive photograph album with 16 pages each with a clear overlay sheet. Some photographs are loose and a few appear to be missing but the album is quite full, clear overlay sheets no longer sticking strongly meaning the photographs could be easily removed if desired, long tear along hinge of upper cover. 32.8 x 28.5cm.

A charming and historically interesting photograph album of a family of Korean residents in Japan (Zainichi Koreans). Although the album appears to have been compiled around the 1970s, it also contains older family photos dating back to the prewar period.

One image shows the mother of the family with a woman friend, taken in Busan, Korea, presumably before moving to Japan. Another photo of a young man was taken at a photo studio in the Amagasaki-Nadahama area of Japan, between Osaka and Kobe: an area which had a large population of prewar Korean migrants. There are a number of delightful photos of the family's babies, several taken with an older woman in Korean dress, who may be their grandmother. A couple of the photos show Korean weddings, while the pictures of the family's children show them sometimes in Korean and sometimes in Japanese dress. One image depicts a school class, with children wearing headbands, probably taken during the Pacific War. The family seems to have done quite well, because the photos taken in the interior of their house show comfortable furnishings and electrical appliances from the early postwar decades. A fascinating insight into the everyday life of Koreans in Japan in the trans war era.
