Map of the port printed in blue, red and black, black and white photographic illustrations, six panel folding brochure with a striking colour image on the upper cover. Brochure measures 23 x 61.7cm extended, folded 23 x 10.5cm. Light wear, upper cover little marked at foot but overall a very good striking brochure.

An interwar Japanese tourist guide brochure for the port of Kobe, distinguished by a striking colour-printed cover design. Issued in concertina format, it opens to reveal a detailed map of the Kobe port district, marking principal shipping berths, railway connections, and major transport routes serving the harbour and commercial quarter.

By the 1930s Kobe had become Japan’s leading international trading port, and the character of this brochure reflects that status. Rather than promoting scenic attractions, the emphasis is firmly on infrastructure and commerce. The content appears to have been directed towards visiting business travellers and commercial representatives, highlighting transport links, dock facilities, bonded warehouses, and trade-related institutions.

The text is illustrated with twelve small black and white photographic views of the port and its environs. These include warehouses, the silk inspection centre, and steamships berthed in the harbour, presenting Kobe as a modern and efficiently organised gateway for international trade.
