Stock ID #222912 A detailed colour-printed Japanese tourist map of Kyoto issued in 1937, offering a rich visual and textual record of the city on the eve of the Pacific War. The map delineates Kyoto’s complex street network with considerable precision and identifies major shrines and temples throughout the urban area. A number of inset maps provide wider geographical context, situating the city within its surrounding region. The verso contains Japanese-language explanatory text introducing principal historical and religious sites, including Rokkakudō, Kiyomizudera and Kinkakuji (the Golden Pavilion), accompanied by small photographic illustrations printed in blue ink. Further sections list educational institutions and detail the locations of government offices, reflecting contemporary administrative and civic priorities. Colour folding map, black and white photographic illustrations on the reverse, 54.5 x 79cm, folds into 20 x 11cm, barely visible neat repairs with archival washi on the reverse at folding points. Very good copy.
