Stock ID #223072 This beautifully boxed set of Utagawa Hiroshige's 53 stages of the Tokaido features Hiroshige's prints on fan-shaped sheets so that they could be displayed on a wooden display holder. A complete set of The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō printed in colour on fan-shaped leaves. Presented in a wooden box with a small wooden fold out easel for display of the colour images. 59 leaves: upper cover, two leaves with a list of contents, explanatory text, in Japanese with some English. Images: 10.5 x 26cm. Box: 13.5 x 28.5 x 2.5cm. One sheet shows a crease at the right margin (Nihonbashi); a few others have minor rubbing at the corners, box trifle faded but overall in very good condition. An attractive set of Hiroshige's famous set of views of the Tokaido Road designed to be displayed on the wooden easel supplied as a table or desk ornament.
An inscription on the back of the box lid records that this set was presented as a gift commemorating a golden wedding anniversary.
