Beyond its fame as a picturesque autumn destination, Eikando Zenrinji is home to the Mikaeri Amida, reputedly a National Treasure of Japan. Unlike traditional forward-facing depictions, this statue shows Amida pausing and turning back - a poignant, and critical visual representation of the central doctrine that defines the Pure Land sect. A colour print, black and white folding brochure, and companion envelope. The print measures 25 x 18cm; the brochure measures 21 x 10cm; the envelope measures 27 x 19cm. Envelope a little worn and marked, though all three overall in very good, crisp condition.
