A collection of twelve items comprising nine black and white photographic plates of Japanese sculpture, three additional photographs, and a typescript, together with one unrelated photograph of a Hindu sculpture.
Nine striking black and white photographic plates are loosely inserted in a printed card portfolio. The plates depict sculptures in Nara (seven plates) and Kyoto (two plates). Also present are two further photographs relating to Buddhist sculpture, including a mounted black and white photograph depicting five Buddhas with an accompanying typescript.
An additional handsome photograph of a sculpture of Shiva as Nataraja appears to have been added by a prior owner and does not relate to the Japanese material. The reverse bears the stamp of Paul Bessen of Amsterdam.
The printed card portfolio is a little soiled. The plates and photographs are in very good condition.
