Two volumes in one, vi + 302pp; [ii] + 263pp, contemporary half calf, spine gilt decorated in compartments, raised bands and red gilt-lettered title label, 20 x 13cm, marbled boards, fore-edges and endpapers, top corners a trifle rubbed, scattered foxing, more pronounced in the prelims and last 15 leaves, but otherwise in very good condition.

First edition, now scarce on the market. Spirited and forthright epistolary account by Emily Eden (1797-1869), poet and novelist. She and her sister Fanny travelled to India, where her brother George Eden, 1st Earl of Auckland was in residence as Governor-General from 1835 to 1842.
