2 volumes in 1, ix + 182pp.; ix + 145pp., armorial binding of Charles Porcher of Clyffe with his embossed crest and motto, contemporary half calf, spine gilt decorated in compartments, red and green gilt lettered spine labels, marbled fore edges, 17.5 x 12cms, calf a trifle rubbed and boards faded, scant spotting, in very good condition.

The first work is a detailed military history of the brigade commanded by Sir Robert Henry Sale (known as "Fighting Bob") during the First Anglo-Afghan War by George Robert Gleig (1796–1888), Chaplain-General of the forces and Inspector-General of military schools.
The second is an account of colonial life by Julia Charlotte Maitland (1808-1864), a great-niece of the novelist Fanny Burney, who was a strong advocate for national education in India. She and her husband Charles, an Anglican priest ran a small school in Rajahmundry.
