This sugoroku game sheet was issued as a supplement to the New Year’s Day issue of the Hōchi Newspaper in 1925. The newspaper published the very popular cartoon series Nonki na Tōsan (Laid-back Daddy) between 1923 and 1926.


In the series, Asō Yutaka depicts the main character, the laid-back Daddy, making his way through everyday life with a humorous touch. One characteristic of this sugoroku is that players join in the fun by acting as though they themselves are cartoon characters. In addition to leisure activities such as cherry blossom viewing and watching action films, the game also includes topical references to the anti-Japanese movement, most likely in the United States, and to an earthquake. The goal is for Daddy to become a rich man.
