イソップ双六. [Isoppu sugoroku].<BR> [Aesop Fables Sugoroku Game].
東京. [Tokyo]. 小学館. [Shōgakkan]. Showa 4 [ 1929]. Stock ID #223768 This colourful sugoroku game was a supplement to the January 1929 issue of Shogaku Yonensei (小学四年生), a monthly magazine for the 4th grade Primary School pupils (about 10 year old). In this game, various stories from the Aesop fables are introduced at each stop. The children read the stories and take in some moral lessons from them. The goal features the story of an honest woodcutter who accidentally drops his iron axe into a body of water. A deity emerges with a gold axe and a silver axe, asking if they belong to him. By answering truthfully and claiming only his humble iron axe, the woodcutter is rewarded with all three axes. By making this absolute honesty the final requirement to "win" the game, the publishers ensured that a child's gameplay journey culminated in the ultimate moral takeaway: honesty is always richly rewarded.
