This interesting colour sugoroku game sheet was issued as a supplement to the January 1918 issue of Fujin Sekai (婦人世界), a popular women’s magazine. The game presents various experiences and emotions associated with the upbringing of upper-middle-class young women.

It begins with the birth of a baby girl. On the left-hand side, socially approved virtues for women of the period are illustrated, including obedience, kindness, faith and study. The right-hand side depicts less desirable traits and emotions, such as silliness, selfishness and laziness.

The game reflects the conservative expectations placed on young women at the time, while also acknowledging the presence of more conflicting emotions and behaviours.
